Paramoor is one of five Macedon Ranges’ wineries to be included in the five star category.

According to the Wine Companion, five stars indicates an ‘outstanding winery capable of producing wines of very high quality…..and will have at least two wines rated at 94 points or above.’

Paramoor’s winemaker and owner, Dr. Will Fraser, said that he was delighted at the recognition his winery had received.

“This is a most satisfying achievement for Paramoor, which is a relatively new winery, so we are naturally delighted to be joining such an exclusive group,” Will said.

“This is one of the highest accolades a winery can achieve.

“In addition, James Halliday has given several of our wines very high scores, with the 2009 ‘Joan Picton’ Pinot Noir being rated at an exceptional 96.

Other ratings were 2009 ‘The Fraser’ Shiraz Cabinet Sauvignon and 2010 ‘Joan Picton’ Pinot Noir, each 94 points (outstanding wines); and the 2009 ‘Master Angus’ Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot, 92 points (highly recommended).

The Wine Companion August Newsletter’s tasting notes says of the 2009 Joan Picton Pinot Noir “deep colour, still holding crimson, no sign of colour change; a very classy pinot, with satsuma plum, cherry and fruit spice driving the bouquet and palate alike; its balance is impeccable, as is the classic lift on the finish.”

Will said James Halliday’s findings had reinforced Paramoor Winery’s position as one of the Macedon Ranges’ premier wine producers.
